Hamilton, NJ- Fourteenth District Assembly candidates Rob Calabro and Bill Harvey welcomed the tough comprehensive ethics proposal unveiled today by Republican Gubernatorial candidate Chris Christie.
“Years upon years of broken promises by Governor Corzine, Assembly Speaker Roberts and Senate President Codey have essentially put out a welcome mat for corruption within New Jersey government,” said Calabro. “Last month’s widespread arrests of legislators, mayors and local officials, as well as the resignation of one of Corzine’s most trusted cabinet members, show that New Jersey’s ethics laws do not work. Candidate Christie has unveiled a comprehensive proposal that would make it clear to public officials that serving the public, not personal interests, must be their sole concern.”
Harvey reminded Governor Corzine that there’s still time to call for a special session of the Legislature to adopt the ethics reforms so sorely needed in New Jersey.
“There is a public confidence crisis in New Jersey government that needs immediate attention,” said Harvey. “Several ideas offered today by Christie already exist in legislation that has been ignored by the Democratic majority. Rob and I are confident in Chris Christie, who has a proven record of fighting government corruption as United States Attorney. New Jersey can not afford to wait until January when Christie is governor to start taking steps to make government accountable to the people.”
