KOTCH WATCH: Burlington County Taxpayers Deserve Better(Mount Holly, NJ) - As Burlington County voters and residents continue to anxiously wait for George Kotch to take the oath of office, they are learning more and more about the Democrat they elected to serve as Burlington County Surrogate, and it’s not a pretty picture.
Not only has Kotch failed the public servant litmus test, but he’s not racking up points on legal knowledge either.
It wasn’t until a local newspaper reporter pointed out to Kotch that he couldn’t serve as both Surrogate and as Administrative Counsel to Burlington Township that he decided he had better “retire from the $50,000 a year township position.
“Wouldn’t a good lawyer, in fact wouldn’t a not-so-good lawyer, take the time to pull out a law book and find out it was illegal for him to hold two positions? asked Rich Leveseque, Executive Director of the Burlington County Republican Party.
“Apparently, not George Kotch. He was prepared to put together two salaries, bring home more than $149,000 a year, and become one of New Jersey’s leading pension padders, Levesque said.
Meantime, said Levesque, an anxious Burlington County await January 19, 2007, the day that Kotch will reportedly and finally take the oath of office and finally accepts the responsibilities of Surrogate that he has postponed thus far.
“It should be quite a party, said Levesque. “Instead of a courtroom, Kotch and his partymates will gather in a swank hotel, he’ll be sworn by a federal legislator under federal investigation, and they’ll party away.
“It’s been said before, but we’ll say it again. Burlington County voters deserve better.
