(Mount Laurel) – Chris Brown and Mary Anne Reinhart today called on Republican Freeholder Director Aubrey Fenton to stop hiding behind the infamous GOP spin machine and answer their calls for debates. Today, Brown and Reinhart introduced the “GOP Clock of Silence” on their campaign website www.votedemocratsforchange.com to highlight the Republicans refusal to answer questions on their history of higher taxes and spending. Today marks the 33rd day of Republican silence.
“Aubrey Fenton has to answer for higher taxes in Burlington County. Aubrey Fenton has to answer for higher spending in Burlington County. Aubrey Fenton has to answer for the corruption that has occurred in Burlington County under his watch,” said Chris Brown. “In these tough economic times Burlington County residents need leaders who are committed to an accountable, accessible and affordable government – not tax and spend politicians like Aubrey Fenton.”
On June 24th the Tyler-Brown-Reinhart team offered to begin scheduling debates to allow both parties to present their plans for handling the tough economic times that lie ahead. A subsequent request for debates was sent on July 17. At this time, the Burlington County GOP has yet to reply.
“Burlington County residents are tired of higher taxes and spending,” said Reinhart. “Year after year the Burlington County Freeholders hide behind the highly skilled and talented public relations machine that makes promises which go unfulfilled once their candidates are elected. This year, the stakes are too high and Aubrey Fenton owes the residents of Burlington County answers. Every year since he has been elected, nearly 70% of Burlington County municipalities are forced to raise taxes, while Fenton and his colleagues refuse to help.”
According to Burlington County Democratic Chairman Rick Perr the Democrats will patiently wait for the GOP to reply and will continue to discuss their Straight A’s plan for reform with residents in all 40 Burlington County municipalities.
“For the past several years Burlington County residents are made the same promises by the GOP Spin Machine,” said Perr. “Once elected however, their candidates fall woefully short of delivering on any of those promises.
There is no doubt this spin machine will use all of their skills to hide the deficiencies in Aubrey Fenton’s leadership. This is the same machine that has been called corrupt by their former Vice Chair, been the subject of lawsuits and criminal investigation, has been rebuked by a Federal judge and even criticized by the former Chair of the New Jersey Republican Chairs.
This year the stakes are too high for political spin and the residents deserve a side by side comparison of the candidates.”
