Statement on Jeff Meyer Being Forced Out as Burlington County Democrats Treasurer

Mount Holly, August 3, 2009 – The following is a statement from the Burlington County Republican Committee in response to Jeff Meyer being ousted as Burlington County Democratic Committee Treasurer following weekend news reports closely linking Meyer to ex-Hoboken Mayor Peter Cammarano, who was arrested on federal corruption charges for taking bribes from a government informant, and Meyer’s apparent role in a Medford-based PAC that was one of Cammarano’s single largest campaign contributors:

“The Burlington County Democrats are in full damage control mode after weekend news reports linking them, and a political action committee they run, to corrupt Hudson County politicians, including disgraced ex-Hoboken Mayor Peter Cammarano, who was pressured to resign late last week after being arrested for taking bribes in a federal corruption investigation,” said Burlington County GOP spokesman Chris Russell.  “Jeff Meyer being forced out as Treasurer of the Burlington County Democratic Committee is a clear indication that there are more shoes to drop in this growing scandal.  It’s time for County Democrat Chairman Rick Perr to answer the questions we first posed last week: What prompted him to direct tens of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions to corrupt public officials in Hoboken and Hudson County, and what did he and the County Democrats expect to receive in return from their newfound North Jersey friends?”
