Is Brooke Hearn really a republican, or did he just switch parties to become a councilman in New Providence which as far as I know has never elected a Dem in the history of the town ?

njwatcher, are you kidding me!? This has got to be the most pathetic attempt to discredit Sen. Kean I've seen and it's only August! Kean linked to Torricelli? PFFFFTT! Don't make me laugh!!
You people who blindly support Bob Menendez would do or say anything to get this man elected. This is just flat out laughable. From the time Menendez became a Congressman he was friend and staunch ally of Bob Torricelli.
Furthermore, good for Councilman Hearn for becoming a Republican and coming to the realization that the party of Torricelli, McGreevey and Menendez is one of hypocracy, corruption and fraud. He saw the light and is a successful politician as a result.
As for you Menendez lovers at there, you're going to have to do WAY better than this!

Dino,
Not the point, all I am wondering is if Hern only became a GOP so he could get on the council or was it really a change in philosphy.
In othe words, he is really a Dem or Rep ?

I heard that the NP Repubs don't like Hern. He failed in a write-in attempt against the Mayor in June.

Actually, Hern didn't make a write-in attempt. Other Republicans who are unhappy with the Mayor wrote-in Hern to voice their opposition to a proposed development project that the Mayor has failed to oppose. NP Republicans are unhappy with Hern because he has stood up and spoken out against irresponsible over development, and he has refused to fall in line with very bad policy decisions by the Republican leadership. In fact, Hern declined to run for Mayor and is seeking re-election to his seat on the Council, and he received the endorsement of the NP Republicans in the June primary.

Just to clarify, the rank and file NP Republicans are happy with Hern's leadership, it is only a few leaders in the oranization that would rather see Hern fall in line with the party on development issues that are a bit unhappy.

Yeah MJS, that's the spin Hern gives everybody. A source in NP Repub land tells me that if Hern had to go before the Repub committee today he would not get the line.

Let's face it Runuts, you are the one trying to spin things, not Councilman Hern. If he wanted to challenge the Mayor, he could have filed a petition to run in the primary. But he wouldn’t do it, despite being asked to do so by Republican committee members. He is working to strengthen the party, not divide it. Councilman Hern has strong support within the NP Republican party and throughout the NP community. He has put policy ahead of politics for the well being of the NP community and the NP Republican party.

Aw jeez MJS you're makin me misty-eyed. Look, I really don't care what's goin on up in NP. I did not like Hern when he was a Democrat and he is not a respected Republican. Just keep Harry Pappas Jr in NP. No way will he ever have serious consideration for an Assembly seat.

Judging from your venemous slander, reference to Harry Pappas, and cowardly anonimity, you appear to have revealed yourself to be one of those Union County Democrats who correctly view Councilman Hern as a threat to the culture of curruption that you hold so dear. You are simply not telling the truth. Councilman Hern is a respected leader in his community and in the Republican party.
