Ewing (October 31, 2007) – With six days until Election Day, Bob Martin, Republican State Senate candidate in the 15th district, yesterday (10/30) discussed the pressing statewide issues to a public service class at the Eagleton Institute of Politics. Ingrid Reed, director of the Eagleton Institute’s New Jersey Project, teaches the class.
“This was an excellent opportunity to discuss the critical issues like skyrocketing property taxes and rising gang violence that are affecting residents statewide,” Martin stated.
Martin centered his speech on how to defeat an incumbent through a grass-roots effort. To date, Martin has knocked on over 7,000 doors.
“We are at a time when most residents feel a complete disconnect from their elected representatives. They appreciate the fact that a candidate is willing to go door-to-door and introduce himself as well as explain his platform for reform,” Martin stated to the class.
“The overwhelming feedback from my door-to-door effort is that residents tell me this state is no longer affordable. Everyday I come across new families and seniors that are moving or planning to move out of our state. I remind residents that if you continue to vote the same legislators into office, you will continue to get the same results,” Martin stated.
Recent studies show that over the past five years, New Jersey has had a net loss of over 230,000 residents. The leading cause of this mass exodus is the economic burden of living in New Jersey.
Martin concluded, “It is clear that change is needed. There needs to a change in the way we do business in Trenton. I have offered a platform of change and reform, while legislators, like my opponent Shirley Turner, offer more of the same.”
