In a 2003 interview on New Jersey Network, legendary Hudson County insider Paul Byrne offered up some free advice: "Politics 101 in New Jersey: don't tick off the U.S. Attorney." Apparently suffering from a huge shortage of testosterone, it seems the Democratic elite in this very blue state follow Politics 101 rather religiously -- top political leaders have absolutely no interest in talking about Christopher Christie, the federal prosecutor and the state’s #1 Republican.

Attempts to get key Democrats to talk about why the U.S. Department of Justice initially placed the corruption-busting Christie on a list of prosecutors to be fired, and the reason he was eventually taken off the list, were mostly unsuccessful. That means that the advice of Paul Byrne (who pleaded guilty to corruption charges made by Christie's office) trumps any advance preparation to help Jon Corzine beat Chris Christie in the 2009 gubernatorial election.

It didn't take long.

Mr. Vega has now lost all gray matter. except his hair. He is prohibiting under penalty of law, any marching in a parade through West New York extolling the pride of the Cuban community because Cubans are suffering in Cuba! Forget the fact that he himself marched in the parade for the past seven years. 

The man is totally losing it altogether.

Sal's Real Reason

The reason Sal Vega banned the parade from going through West New York was because the organizer was Emilio Del Valle who is a staunch ally of Brian Stack and Vega probably figured that Emilio would turn the parade into the Brian Stack show. Emilio was the one who sabotaged Bret Schundler in '01 by putting signs up in Union City that said, "Stack & Schundler, Perfect Together." Stack promptly and vocally attempted to sue Schundler's Campaign.

I do agree that the Cuban Day parade is pretty ridiculous. The whole point of the parade is to celebrate Cuba's independence from Spain in 1903. Seeing as though 11 million Cubans have been living in a Communist prision for 48 years, I really fail to see what there is to celebrate. It has become completely devoid of any significant meaning whatsoever.

While this may have been a part of the reason  Sal didn't want this parade in West New York, it wasn't THE reason.
