BLOSCHAK CALLS FOR CAPUTO TO JOIN HIM IN OPPOSING GAY MARRIAGE

For Immediate Release: Contact: Daniel Beckelman (201)-446-9889 October 10, 2009 Bloschak Calls for Caputo To Join Him in Opposing Gay Marriage Belleville-Republican Assembly candidate Andrew Bloschak said as an Assemblyman he would reflect the values of his district and oppose legalizing gay marriage in New Jersey. Bloschak called on his opponent, incumbent Ralph Caputo, to join him in opposing Governor Corzine’s call to pass same-sex marriage. “Many people in our district and throughout New Jersey have religious and cultural traditions regarding marriage. Polling has shown New Jerseyans are tolerant of different lifestyles, but support marriage being between one man and one woman. That is why I support a vote on a state constitutional amendment codifying marriage between a man and a woman, and I believe New Jerseyans will do the right thing when that vote is taken,” Bloschak said. Bloschak, whose district includes a higher percentage of African-Americans than any other, is also highly offended by gay-rights groups making statements comparing the quest to gay marriage to attaining civil-rights for African-Americans in the 1960’s. “These comparisons over the last couple of years are disingenuous and somewhat demeaning to the historic quest for black achievement in America,” Bloschak said. Bloschak said he believes Ralph Caputo should be honest to his values and oppose any efforts to legalize gay marriage. “Ralph and I disagree on a lot, but I know his cultural values do not support this legislation. I hope Caputo stands up to the extreme left in his party and supports traditional marriage,” Bloschak concluded. ###
