Urban Republican Bloschak Says Wave of Shootings In Newark Highlights Need for Change
Candidate says violent crime will continue to plague Newark if jobs and hope do not return to state's largest city
Newark-Urban Republican Assembly candidate Andrew Bloschak expressed sympathy for victims of the recent wave of shootings in Newark and called on the police to be extra vigilant in preventing further shootings. But Bloschak also asserted that until real economic prosperity returns to the neighborhoods of the state's largest city, crime will continue to be well above the state average.
"First off I want to express sympathy for the victims of these senseless shootings. No human being deserves to have live with what is going on in this section of Newark. But we will only begin to see real change if we can bring jobs and a quality education to Newark, and not just downtown, but the whole city. Social welfare and stimulus is not trickling down to the ordinary people in our area, and they are losing out on the opportunity to be full participants in the American Dream because of the misguided policies of the elitist Democrats who control this city and state," Bloschak said.
Bloschak said his first priorities would be to bring good-paying jobs to the district and better schools through breaking the monopoly of a failing public school system. "While my opponent Ralph Caputo has gotten more jobs for himself and his friends as an elected official, without doing one thing to help the City of Newark, I will work every day to create incentives for sustainable employment and educational choice for my constituents so they are less likely to turn to crime and hurt their fellow citizens," the Assembly candidate said.
Bloschak also blasted Caputo's weak record on law enforcement and treatment of those in correctional facilities. "Where was Ralph when Newark was cutting funding for cops? Where's the report on the unacceptable death of Derrick West in Delaney Hall that we were promised? Does our dual-officeholder even care anymore about the residents of Newark and Essex County?" Bloschak questioned.
