WILLING TO WORK WITH DEMOCRATS TOWARD APPROVAL OF A COMPLETE BAN ON PAY-TO-PLAY AND WHEELING
Assemblymen John Amodeo and Vince Polistina, who came to office pledging to fight for comprehensive ethics reform, today said that they are cautiously optimistic about an ethics reform proposal unveiled today by Governor Jon Corzine.
“We have supported strong ethics reform measures from the day we arrived in Trenton and we would welcome the opportunity to pass comprehensive reform measures,” said Amodeo, R-Atlantic. “We obviously need to see the details of the legislation that Corzine is proposing, but if it will produce comprehensive reform, we will be supportive of those efforts.”
Corzine met with Republican leaders Wednesday morning to brief them on his new ethics reform proposal. While no actual legislation or language details were made available, the Governor indicated that the bans on pay-to-play and wheeling will be complete.
“We came to office pledging to our constituents that we would fight for tough ethics reforms that would ban practices like pay-to-play and wheeling,” said Polistina, R-Atlantic. “If the Governor’s proposal embraces comprehensive reform and will truly put an end to these corrupt campaign finance practices, we stand ready to work with him to achieve approval by the Legislature.”
