Hermansen’s Record of Pilfering the Pockets of Mahwah’s Residents Catching Up to Him
Hackensack – Robert Hermansen’s history on taxes as a Mahwah Councilman has become a major issue this election season as residents worry about the ramifications of Hermansen taking his record county-wide.
Since 2007 Hermansen has helped raise taxes on Mahwah’s working families by a whopping 21.8%. In 2007 the average family in Mahwah already paid $1,491 in property taxes. But thanks to Hermansen’s repeated support for tax increases, that number stood $1,817 including another 5% tax increase Hermansen supported just this year.
“Part of being a responsible public servant is being sensitive to the needs and concerns facing the people you were elected to serve,” said Freeholder Julie O’Brien. “Raising taxes by almost 22% in just 3 years, and in the middle of one of the worst economic downturns this nation has seen in a generation, is unconscionable. With families struggling to make ends meet, Hermansen just keeps pulling them further apart.”
“It looks to me like Robert Hermansen never met a tax hike he didn’t like,” said Freeholder Vernon Walton. “Considering the effect he’s had on the tax bills of Mahwah’s residents, I think Bergen County’s citizens will think twice before putting their support behind a man who doesn’t seem to understand the impact his votes have on the lives of others…and their wallets.

Interesting comments
Coming from 2 people who have no oversight on a budget created by the County signed off by themselves who voted for an 8% increase to the hard working taxpayers in Bergen County. Last I checked that is 60% higher than what they are blaming the Councilman from Mahwah for doing. Obviously Julie and Vernon have trouble with numbers otherwise they would know that 8% > 5%. Then again with their record of tax increases does it surprise you they want you to focus on someone else's record instead of their own.
Just take a look at the spending that has gone with, ENCAP, Xanadu, The Juvenile Detention Center, Overpeck Park, The Equestrian Center etc.etc.etc. The debt they increased to the local taxpayer alone was 80 million $'s. Watching the lack of oversight going on within the Vocational schools, watching the amount spent on trips and meals tells you who is asleep at the wheel. Listening to these two being quoted, is like listening to Dumb and Dumber.
