Beck changes spending cut priorities in face of Karcher challenge

When State Sen. Ellen Karcher challenged Assemblywoman Jennifer Beck in a taped television debate with Michael Aron today to explain why she wants to cut $12,000,000 from New Jersey After 3, Beck denied that was one of her budget cuts.

But it was listed as such in a power point on Beck's website - at least until today.

"She was caught in a lie on an NJN debate," Karcher campaign spokesman Michael Premo said of Beck. "When she was called out on it, they altered their website."

Premo said the link provided by Beck's website this morning showed the $12,000,000 figure under the following heading: "suspension of, or reduction in, non-essential programs."

But between the time the Karcher campaign released a Friday morning press release challenging Beck on the issue, and the afternoon, someone removed the $12,000,000 line item from the power point presentation of Beck's proposed spending cuts.

Beck spokesman Tom Fitzsimmons admitted they removed the dollar figure, and described Premo's complaint as "much ado about nothing."

He said the Beck team's website links to the Assembly Republicans' power point of suggested cuts, and admitted that when his candidate took the hit from Karcher this morning, they pulled the NJ After 3 line item.

"This is one of the cuts that she wouldn't go after," Fitzsimmons said. "She doesn't agree with every single one."

In the power point presentation, the old total proposed reduction of what Republicans identified as non-essential items was $38,692,000. With the removal of the $12,000,000, that total changed to $26,292,000, with $400,000 unaccounted for. But the old total of $38,692,000 remained on the final page of the power point presentation, at least as late as this afternoon.

New Jersey After 3 is a private non-profit organization dedicated to expanding career opportunities for children, according to the organization's website.

Soooo...

Beck would "only" cut the budget by $27M now. Wow, what a powerful story. And Karcher would cut the budget by how much? Oh that's right, she increased the budget by OVER FIVE BILLION DOLLARS and increased taxes by FOUR BILLION DOLLARS.

show me the money

Which cuts does Ellen agree with then?  Any? Did she call Codey and ask for a budget cut she can support so she can respond to critics who say she doesn't cut budgets, she only knows how to increase them on the backs of her constituents who don't cheat on their property and sales taxes?

How do we know Beck is lying?

Her mouth is moving. Beck is a habitual liar and scofflaw.

On NJN: Beck's excuse for breaking the law:

"I was a renter." "I moved around a lot." Jeffrey Dahmer rented and Charles Manson moved around alot. In Beck's world that would earn them a pass.

One lame excuse wasn't enough

she needed two.

Yeah, I just moved into my new rental so I think I'll tie one on and go speeding the wrong way down a one way street. Maybe I'll ignore some traffic lights while I'm at it cause hey, I just moved into my rental!  Let's party on the highway!

OK... now the list is $1.5 billion.

Actually, the list is now $1.5 billion. That was only one of about 10 categories on the list. The list also mentioned about $300 million in pork that Karcher voted for including $100,000 for an antisemitic group that Corzine had the sense to veto and another $100,000 so legislators could go to newark Bears luxury boxes for free. Oh and $189 million for Trenton, Paterson and four other towns that get money because corrupt obnoxious democrat bosses Ellen supported directe dmoney to their power bases while Monmouth schools got virtually nothing in the way of aid. Ellen... you idiot... stop whining like a timid democrat stooge about less than 1% of the cuts that normal people are not afraid to CONSIDER. It's why you suck as a legislator. It's why the people of Monmouth want someone who will represnet them. Ellen... now go do your reserach... tell us how much of that $12 million comes back to Monmouth County. Do it you moron... you will find out about $4.25 of it comes to Monmouth. You just shrieked and carried on about money that goes to Hudson County and Newark and Paterson... places that get far more than they need already and aren;t in your district. Idiot... spender... Codey tool..

Represent Monmouth - Not Your Masters Ellen

Ellen, Ellen, Ellen. Your constituents want spending cuts. You have done nothing but bend over for Democrat spending. You participated in a corrupt process of dishing out pork that McGreevey created, including homeland security money 9 months after 9-11. (I went to three funerals that year and I think you are disgusting for letting that happen and NEVER openeing your mouth to condemn it.) You were content to get a couple thousand here and there for a few groups, including the Colts Neck Education Foundation which was run by someone who stole money with the funds. You thought you were cute playing the game while Bryant and others used the process you supported to stuff money in the pockets of their employers and they kept low-show, joke jobs. Cut spending that Monmouth is paying for and getting none of you idiot. Do it and represent the people in your district instead of Codey. Now let me guess... someone Codey is paying for on your staff singled out the After 3 program on the list that you hysterically shrieked about. God forbid all the money flowing into Codey's district through that program end. Moron... tell us... in the four years NJ After Three has spent about $60 million, how much went to you r district. I dare you... tell us... and then tell us how Monmouth gets a great return on the dollar. Speak up Ellen. Just tell us $200 million that you would cut... can you?

Hope Max Gets a Free Xmas Tree...

Its interesting that as the polls show Jennifer Beck winning in this race, the pro-Karcher rhetoric being passed off as objective reporting on this site, has really ramped up. NJAfter 3 provides free after school care in urban districts. Maybe Max should ask Ellen Karcher how much of that money came back to our district. How much did Freehold get, or Marlboro get, or Red Bank get? The answer - almost none. That's why state Democrats like Karcher so much, and why they're dumping money into this race by the tractor-load. They're confident that Karcher will continue to vote to raise taxes on the families in her district so that they can steal the money for their districts. Who exactly is Ellen Karcher representing? Her fellow "farmers" in Newark and Camden? Has Karcher ever proposed a spending cut? What's her plan to reign in state spending and get us taxpayers some relief? Should we all plant a couple of christmas trees and take hundreds of thousands of dollars in farmland tax breaks too? Maybe that's her solution. I'd love to hear it.

poho, you ignorrant slut!

Can't find a legitimate response to Karcher's addiction to spending other people's money so you resort to the politics of personal distruction. Nice work, you bum.

So now, in the closing week

So now, in the closing week of the campaign, we know that Karcher’s most compelling case for reelection is that she will protect all state spending up to and including a $12,000,000 appropriation for a North Jersey group to spend outside of Monmouth County, and her opponent had a moving violation years and years ago.

Seems like there is nothing Karcher will not do for her North Jersey comrades in the Senate Democrat caucus.

She exempted them from the dual officeholding ban.

She exempted them from mandatory pension forfeiture for corruption.

She guards their pork appropriations with the tenacity of a junkyard dog, in exchange for nothing but flat funding for Monmouth County schoolkids.

She takes and spends Codey’s massive campaign money almost as fast as she takes and spends more tax money from Monmouth County taxpayers.

No wonder Karcher’s reelection campaign has about as much chance as a Christmas tree in a wood chipper.

None of this Republican ranting

changes the fact that Beck broke the law by ignoring court warrants 3 times. The voters deserve answers. Does Jennifer Beck think she is above the law?

Law Breaking Liar

Great pick by the GOP. Republicans ought to be real proud of their girl. Atta boy!

Poho

Drunk driving no doubt has got to warm old W's heart.

Poho

Drunk driving no doubt has got to warm old W's heart.

Poho You Know...

that Imwithstupid is Jen Beck. And Scarlet is Casagrande and Atticus is really O'Scanlon. Its the only thing that makes sense with their ridiculous rantings. Pay no heed to the men (or women) behind the curtain.

When lying drunk drivers try to

discredit someone who has worked hard to fight corrupt politicians and get them out of office it's just shows you how low the Republicans will go.

"Scarlet" as in Letter must be

Beck. And you can guess why.

Poho...

Does D.S. ring a bell?

Do go on....

I don't know exactly what you 2 are talking about but do continue. There has got to be some juicy details we'd all love to hear. The Republicans have taken this campaign to new lows so they ought to be ready to get muddy.

From what I hear

it could be any number of people who colored her "scarlet" Is DS a well known jersey shore guy?

Oooooo, I'm loving this

tell me more, tell me more...

Beck can't stop lying

On NJN: Beck says after school program on the chopping block is on her website. Then 5 seconds later she says it isn't on her website. I guess we should not hold our breath to get the facts about her lousy driving skills and ignoring court warrants for her arrest.

Poho,

on NJN, was that public "affairs" programming you were watching?

Pathetic

It's interesting that the Beck supporters talk about specific actions as a lawmaker when criticizing Karcher, while the Karcher supporters go right for the politics of personal distruction. Breathlessly gossiping like immature pre-teen girls, with no facts, no policy disagreements, just innuendo and personal cruelty.

For extra absurdity, the same people accuse the Republicans of going low.

Say whatever you want, but Jennifer Beck is going to be the next Senator from the 12th, and no amount of childish, nasty, ad hominem rantings can change that. But by all means, keep representing your candidate the way you are. Your shrill, defensive nastiness just somehow seems very fitting. It also will make the Beck supporters enjoy their victory that much more.
