Assembly Republican Leader Alex DeCroce says he is not surprised that the Corzine administration took “only minutes” to decide that a sales tax holiday – a concept supported by Democrat and Republican administrations in 16 states – is not right for New Jersey.
“Only Corzine would think the road to economic salvation is to take more money out of the pockets of people,” said DeCroce, R-Morris and Passaic. “When businesses close and people lose their jobs after the holidays because he wouldn’t lift a finger to keep them afloat when it mattered the most, the blame will be Corzine’s and his alone.
“You would think a ‘Wall Street Wizard’ would know that you can’t pay the mortgage if you don’t have a job. When is Corzine going to hear what the people are saying? They don’t want more taxes, more tolls, more borrowing and more big government programs. They just want to be able to live in a state that’s affordable.
“After imposing 104 new taxes and fees, more than doubling state spending and almost tripling the state debt in just six years, Jon Corzine and the Democrats need a new game plan.”
DeCroce said the sales tax reduction for the holidays proposed by Republicans today is designed to be a short-term economic stimulus and complements the long-term fiscal reforms and economic stimulus initiatives contained in the Common Sense Plan for an Affordable New Jersey that was unveiled in May and summarily ignored by the Corzine administration.
