Stop Number 16 on their "40-in-40: Listen and Learn" Tour found Burlington County Democratic Freeholder candidates Kimberly Kersey and Jim Bernard walking among the unique log-cabin homes of Medford Lakes as they continue their circuit of visiting all 40 county municipalities in 40-straight days. The Medford Lakes Development Company was formed in 1927 and construction began the following year on more than 150 actual log cabins that still make up nearly all the dwellings in the borough. Living in those dwellings, Kersey and Bernard found many residents who are ready for a change to an open, honest government in Burlington County. During their time walking door-to-door in several neighborhoods, the candidates heard calls lower taxes and for a county government that is free of corruption and scandal. One of those residents was Lisa, of Hiawatha Trail, who said she is "frustrated with the corruption and cronyism that the county Republican machine has bestowed on the residents of Burlington County." Kersey and Bernard told Lisa about their "Straight A's for Change" agenda which calls for the appointment of an Inspector General to uncover wasteful spending, fraud and abuse and which also promises to enact the toughest pay to play and ethics reform measure in the state. Another resident, Steve, of Nokomis Trail, said the county Freeholders "need to keep tuition affordable for students at Burlington County College." The candidates explained how they will make Burlington County more affordable, accessible and accountable and will restructure county government to provide equitable funding for critical county programs and services.
