Donnelly Owes Burlington County Taxpayers $21.9 Million and the Clock is Ticking
Incumbent Republican Fails Taxpayers Again
Burlington County Democratic Freeholder Candidates Kimberly Kersey and Jim Bernard today called Incumbent Republican Freeholder Director Donnelly’s budget proposal a blatant slap in the face to every taxpayer in Burlington County.
Donnelly, who promised to reduce spending by $25 million over 3 years when he was elected to his Freeholder seat in 2007, is now $22 million short of his promise overall and $13.5 million short based on an average over 2 years.
“The budget proposed by Incumbent Republican Donnelly is an affront to every taxpayer in Burlington County who deserve real leadership from their elected officials and real spending cuts in these tough economic times. Families and seniors across Burlington County have been forced to stretch every dollar and do more with less and they deserve the same from their Freeholder Board,” said Kersey.
"Chris Brown’s proposed $19 million in budget cuts is exactly the type of leadership that voters demanded last November. The Brown/Reinhart team promised a government that would be Affordable, Accessible and Accountable and that is exactly what was presented in stark contrast to the politics as usual, broken promises of the Incumbent Republicans,” said Bernard.
“The budget presented by Donnelly is another example of the Incumbent Republicans putting the interests of their political insiders, campaign donors and cronies before those of the taxpayers,” said Kersey.
“Donnelly clearly never intended to honor his campaign promise; he simply said what the “Paulsen’s 20”, to whom he is beholden, told him to say in order to get elected. Cutting taxes and reducing spending can never occur under the Incumbent Republicans because Donnelly and his pals owe too many favors to the GOP political bosses,” said Bernard.
“The Brown/Reinhart team promised to reduce spending by $30 million over 3 years. Today’s proposal by Brown would cut nearly $19 million in year one alone. But unless Donnelly and the Incumbent Republicans honor their promise, taxpayers will have to wait one more year until Jim and I are elected in order to enact real change,” Said Kersey.
