(Mount Laurel) Rick Perr, Chairman of the Burlington County Democratic Party , announced today that decorated Iraq War Veteran and U.S. Navy Seal Bill Brown and Evesham Councilwoman Debbie Sarcone were selected today by the Burlington County Democratic Committee to run for the New Jersey General Assembly in the 8th Legislative District.
"While Bill Brown and Debbie Sarcone took two different roads in getting to this point, they are bonded by the simple notion that government in Trenton is broken," remarked Perr. "Their backgrounds, experiences and commitment are exactly what is needed to fix the chaos in Trenton."
Bill Brown is a decorated and honored veteran of the United States Navy. After 8 years of service to his country, including three overseas deployments, Brown has become a national and State advocate for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans.
On May 3rd, 2008 Brown literally ran from Rutgers-Camden to Rutgers-New Brunswick, a distance of 65 miles, to support the Post 9/11 Veterans Assistance Act. This effort raised over $10,000 dollars for the first, and only, Rutgers Military Veterans Scholarship, which Brown started.
"Upon meeting Bill Brown you quickly recognize his extraordinary ability to lead and make a difference," said Perr. "This is even before you read his resume that includes over 200 high risk movements throughout Iraq, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and a lifetime of service to his nation and fellow soldiers."
"The stakes are higher than ever in New Jersey this year," said Brown. "As the unemployment rate climbs in Burlington County and across New Jersey to unprecedented levels and more and more families are losing faith in their government - it is time for action not words."
Debbie Sarcone, who has served on Council in Evesham since 2005, is a recognized advocate for clean and transparent government. Noted for her commitment to fiscal discipline, Sarcone is running for Assembly to shift the focus back to the working men and women of the district.
"For the last four years Debbie Sarcone has been a tireless advocate for the taxpayers of Evesham," said Perr. "Her adamant stances against pay to play and steadfast desire to pass comprehensive ethics reform quickly earned the respect of her colleagues. In a time when the system in Trenton is broken, the people of the 8th District need Debbie Sarcone to ensure their voices are heard."
"As a mother, Councilwoman and a volunteer for many causes I have come to learn and appreciate the daily sacrifices my fellow residents face," said Sarcone. "We cannot afford the status quo - we need focused leadership and public servants who are not afraid to fight for what is right regardless of political affiliations."
Brown and Sarcone are both anxiously awaiting the opportunity to unveil their platform of reform in the next week. They will be traveling the 8th District listening to and learning from fellow residents.
Brown and Sarcone will challenge Scott Rudder and Dawn Addiego in November.
"Addiego and Rudder are two tax-raising career politicians," said Perr. "The only notoriety they have earned over the last two years was the revelation they are card-carrying members of the notorious 'Paulsen's 20' - one of the most blatant abuses of taxpayer dollars in the State. Brown and Sarcone have a clear record of fighting for New Jersey's working families. I am eager to put their records of public service against the empty rhetoric of Trenton politicians Addiego and Rudder."
