KERSEY AND BERNARD ON THE WAY TO HELP

(Mount Laurel – NJ)  Burlington County Democratic Chairman Rick Perr announced tonight that Mount Holly Councilwoman Kimberly Kersey and IBEW Leader Jim Bernard of Cinnaminson will run for Burlington County Freeholder on the Democratic ticket.  The duo received the unanimous support of the Burlington County Democratic Committee.

“Last year, Burlington County residents, in record numbers, overwhelmingly responded to our  ‘Straight A’s for Change’ agenda to bring Affordability, Accessibility and Accountability to Burlington County government,” said Rick Perr, Burlington County Democratic Chairman.  “Kimberly Kersey and Jim Bernard are two fresh faces who will join with the existing Democratic Freeholders to finally implement the 'Straight A’s Plan for Change.'”

The "Straight A’s Plan for Change" plan, designed to bring much needed change to Burlington County taxpayers, would be a stark contrast to the nearly 3 decades of higher taxes, spending increases, secret meetings and corruption embodied by the entrenched, incumbent Republicans.

Kersey, who holds a Juris Doctorate from Villanova University, was elected last May to the Mount Holly Council.  She is the corporate counsel for CMX Inc., a national engineering firm specializing in a wide range of disciplines.   Kersey is a 2006 graduate of Leadership NJ - an organization that recognizes the best and brightest leaders in the State and trains them to become leaders of New Jersey.

“Kimberly Kersey is a dedicated public servant who has a breadth of experience in both the private and public sector,” said Perr.  “She is an accomplished lawyer, an exceptional elected official and a selfless citizen raising money for our Community College as a member of Burlington County College's Foundation.”

“Last May I was humbled when I was elected to serve as a Councilwoman in Mount Holly. Last summer I was proud to endorse Chris Brown and Mary Anne Reinhart’s 'Straight A's Plan for Change.'  Tonight, I am honored to be chosen by my fellow Democrats to finally make government in Burlington County more affordable, accountable and accessible,” said Kersey.

Jim Bernard, a telecommunications technician with International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 98, is a labor leader and active community volunteer.  In addition to being a volunteer coach for Cinnaminson Soccer, Baseball and Junior Wrestling, Bernard has served as Marshal for the Philadelphia Labor Day Parade.  In May of 2000 he was the recipient of a Certificate of Recognition from Burlington County Prosecutor Robert Bernardi at their annual PROCOPS Banquet for helping an injured man from his burning truck after a motor vehicle accident.

“Jim Bernard epitomizes the New Jersey working family,” said Perr.  “He is proud to serve his union, his community and his children.  He understands that Burlington County’s working men and women must become the focus of government – not political insiders.”

“After learning about the 'Paulsen’s 20' last year I was disgusted to know that tens of millions of taxpayer dollars were going to political insiders,” said Bernard.  “In the midst of this economic crisis I felt compelled to step up and be a voice that fights for Burlington County seniors, families and children that love this county as much as I do.  Reducing spending, providing recreation, keeping our children safe and improving services for our seniors must be the focus of government - not enriching political insiders."

Kersey and Bernard said they will unveil next week an update to the Democrats' plan to make government in Burlington County government more affordable, accountable and accessible.  The two will then go to all 40 towns talking with and listening to residents as they seek to bring the change Burlington County taxpayers deserve.

“Last November Burlington County residents rejected the taxes and spending, corruption and sweetheart deals for insiders that have been the hallmark of Republican leadership in Burlington County,” said Perr.  "Kersey and Bernard are on the way to help complete the mission started by Chris Brown and Mary Anne Reinhart to ensure that residents won't have to worry about GOP bosses controlling their county any longer."
