A well-connected Democrat close to Bergen County Democratic Party politics said County Surrogate Mike Dressler remains the party favorite to challenge GOP Executive Kathe Donovan in 2014.
Former Freeholder James Carroll launched his formal bid for the job this morning, but the organization will be with Dressler if he wants it, the source said.
If Dressler does not opt to oppose Donovan, the Bergen County Democratic COmmittee would next eye the possibility of supporting Clerk John Hogan, the source said.
Former New Jersey Governor James McGreevey might remember that former Newark Mayor Sharpe James played a significant role in helping him to get that title.
