The state Republican Party confirmed this morning that a check for $994 from the Mitt Romney campaign to the state Treasury went to pay for the governor's helicopter ride to a Romney fundraiser.
In December, the governor hosted a fundraiser for Romney at the Parsippany Hilton, where the presidential hopeful raised a reported $1.1 million. The event was well attended with GOP luminaries from across the state.
Accordng to Douglas Mayer, spokesman for the state GOP, Gov. Chris Christie flew in a State Police helicopter to get to the event and the check from the campaign is to reimburse the state for the cost of the flight.
Mayer said Romney was not on the helicopter with Christie.
Christie garnered national headlines last summer when he took a State Police helicopter to Montvale to see his son play baseball. The use of the state-funded helicopter drew widespread flak, which intensified when Christie initially declined to reimburse the state for the ride. The governor eventually changed his mind and along with the state GOP, repaid the state about $1,200 for the trip and another $900 for a second flight.
