Gov. Chris Christie's intent to nominate Middlesex County Freeholder Director Christopher D. Rafano to a Superior Court judgeship Monday could take a solid Democratic Party brand name off the ballot in a battleground county.
Middlesex also happens to be Democratic gubernatorial challenger state Sen. Barbara Buono's (D-18) back yard.
Rafano is up for re-election this year in the county Christie beat Jon Corzine in by three points. If he's in judge's robes, he won't be running, depriving Dems of a sure winner, a party source told PolitickerNJ.com.
The rift between Steve Lonegan and Murray Sabrin goes back to 2008.
