TRENTON – Assemblyman Michael Patrick Carroll, (R-25), Morris Plains, has introduced – again – a bill to rename a highway in far northern New Jersey in honor of President Ronald Regan.
A bill he sponsored, A2208, would designate Route 15 – which winds through Morris and Sussex counties – as the Ronald Reagan Memorial Highway.
Carroll has introduced this bill before, going back to 2004. But in a Democratically controlled Legislature, it has never advanced.
And it has gone through some changes. Whereas originally the bill would have provided $2,500 in public funding for this purpose, the latest incarnation specifies that no public money will be used.
Instead, the bill would authorize the Commissioner of Transportation to accept privately donated funds for signs and other costs.
