Wayne, NJ- May 18, 2009. West Milford council candidate and Peter Murphy ally, Michael Ramaglia, is the subject of an ELEC Complaint that has been filed and is pending investigation. The charge involves former political boss, Peter Murphy, who was convicted of crimes he committed as former Chairman of the Passaic County Republican Party. The ELEC complaint involves a $15,000 illegal contribution Murphy made directly to “GOP Strong” headed by Ramaglia in January 2009. This contribution is over twice the limit permitted by law.
“While it is true that the GOP Strong returned $7,800 of illegal contributions back to Murphy, that was only after they had the benefit of the money for an extended period of time in violation of the law,” said Larry Tosi. Violating ELEC laws is nothing new to Murphy. Upon his conviction and resignation as County Chairman, he left the Passaic County Regular Republican Organization with a $17,000 ELEC fine attributable to his conduct while Chairman.
This ELEC Complaint was filed by Larry Tosi, an attorney associated with the Passaic County Regular Republican Organization and Chairman of the PCRRO’s County-wide campaign.
“Even a casual outsider must be concerned by the total disregard that Murphy and his group has for the law,” said Tosi. This past month, we have seen the courts throw out almost half of Murphy’s County Committee Petitions in Paterson as they violated the law and many of them contained false statements sworn to by Peter Murphy and his associates including assembly candidate Anthony Rottino.
