Former Gov. Thomas H. Kean will be in Atlantic City next week to join Atlantic County Republicans at a reception honoring former county GOP chairman Ken LeFevre. The event will take place
Tuesday, Oct. 3, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Harrah’s Casino Hotel in Atlantic City.
LeFevre stepped down as county chairman at the beginning of the year and was succeeded by Keith A. Davis. Davis, along with the former Governor, and State Sen. Bill Gormley, are chairing the tribute to LeFevre.
“We are delighted to have Gov. Kean as our guest, Davis said. “He remains the most popular chief executive in the state’s modern history and, in fact, recently received a public opinion poll approval rating of 55 per cent, even though he left office more than 16 years ago.
LeFevre’s 32-year career includes service as a councilman in Folsom, Freeholder-At-Large in the county for four terms, and a member of the General Assembly for three terms. He also served in the cabinet during Gov. Kean’s term, holding the post of deputy commissioner in the Department of Commerce and Economic Development.
LeFevre served as county chairman on two different occasions, first from 1983 through 1986, and secondly from 2002 to the start of 2006.
“Ken has given exemplary service to the citizens of Atlantic County and to the Republican Party, Davis said. “He served with integrity and dedication, both as an elected official and as leader of his party.
The tribute is also a fund raising event for the County GOP Committee and its candidates ---- Freeholders Frank Finnerty, Jim Curcio and Tom Russo running for re-election, and Sonya Harris, running for County Clerk.
