CONNERS AND CONAWAY SECURE OVER $1.3 MILLION
IN STATE AID FOR 7th DISTRICT ROAD PROJECTS
Funding Will Improve Safety, Congestion, While Helping Offset Property Tax Costs
Delran – Assemblymen Jack Conners and Herb Conaway, MD, announced today that 13 separate towns and cities located in the seventh legislative district will receive a total of $1,307,000 in state transportation funds for local street resurfacing, reconstruction and other transportation improvement projects.
"These awards will directly go to maintaining the quality of life in these towns without putting further pressure on local property tax rates, said Conaway (D-Delanco). “When state and local governments come together to ensure that taxpayers are not forced to bear an unequal burden in paying for improvements, everyone wins.
The money is from the Fiscal Year 2006 Transportation Trust Fund Municipal Aid Formula Program and will be distributed to the following communities:
· BEVERLY CITY $150,000 RAILROAD AVENUE EAST ROAD RECONSTRUCTION
· BURLINGTON CITY $150,000 THIRD STREET REHABILITATION
· BURLINGTON TWP. $150,000 DULTY’S LANE
· DELANCO TWP. $115,000 PERKINS LANE
· MAPLE SHADE TWP. $150,000 SOUTH FORKLANDING ROAD, PHASE 3
· MOUNT HOLLY TWP. $150,000 HIGH STREET AND PAXSON STREET
· PENNSAUKEN TWP. $142,000 McCLELLAN AVENUE
· RIVERSIDE TWP. $150,000 FILLMORE, TAYLOR AND KOSSUTH STREETS
· WESTAMPTON TWP. $150,000 TARNSFIELD ROAD IMPROVEMENTS
The New Jersey Department of Transportation is providing the funding so local governments can pay for municipal road construction and improvement projects that will help relieve congestion, improve transportation safety, and help curb local property taxes. The program focuses on providing towns with the means to fix existing infrastructure, including resurfacing projects and road rehabilitation or reconstruction.
“The strength and vitality of our community’s economy relies on maintaining the access to stores and services that good roads provide, said Conners (D-Pennsauken). “Whether it is a commuter heading to work or a retiree driving to the store, all residents rely on a working network of roads. This aid will ensure they will have the ability to go to the places they need, whenever they want.
The lawmakers said the transportation funding emphasizes their belief in maintaining and improving existing transportation infrastructure before spending tax dollars on new highways and roads that generate urban sprawl and new lanes of traffic congestion. Assemblymen Conners and Conaway said the aid to local municipalities will ensure that motorists and residents get the transportation networks they deserve.

“She has already chosen the interests of the insurance industry over the health care needs of working people, she took millions from Wall Street as the economy went into a meltdown, and now she wants to purchase a job in Congress at a time when so many have lost their jobs because of the actions of big bankers and others." -- Monmouth County Democrats spokesman Mike Mangan, on Republican Diane Gooch, who is challenging U.S. Rep.
