Assemblyman Guy Gregg

GREGG PRESSES FOR FARBER RESIGNATION
FOLLOWING AG'S CALL TO MVC MANAGER

In response to an article in Sunday's Bergen Record which reported that embattled State Attorney General Zulima Farber telephoned the manager of the Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) office in Elizabeth on behalf of her live-in boyfriend, who was stopped by police for two motor vehicle violations, Assemblyman Guy Gregg yesterday reiterated his call for her resignation.Gregg, R-Sussex, Morris, and Hunterdon, said that even if a special prosecutor appointed by Governor Jon Corzine does not find Farber guilty of a crime, her behavior and lack of ethics are proof enough she is not qualified to hold the state's highest law enforcement position.

"It seems that as this fiasco unfolds day by day, we are finding Attorney General Farber's conduct more and more troubling, outrageous and unacceptable," stated Gregg. "It's obvious she knew exactly what she was doing when she showed up at the scene in an official state car with lights flashing.

"And to add insult to injury, she phoned the MVC manager to let him know her boyfriend would be contacting him to fix a problem with his driver's license and car registration," he continued. "Just how stupid does she think our residents are? According to the Attorney General, the MVC manager stood in line with her boyfriend. How many other state residents have received such preferential treatment when in trouble with the law?"

According to The Record article, after Farber left the scene where her boyfriend, Hamlet Goore, Jr., was stopped and issued two tickets, which Fairview police officers later attempted to void, she called her friend Angel Estrada, MVC manager in the Elizabeth office. Farber alleges she merely wanted to let Estrada know Goore would be contacting him to rectify a problem with his driver's license and to renew his car registration.

"It is imperative that special prosecutor (retired Appellate Judge Richard) Williams not only determine if Ms. Farber did anything illegal, but if she violated ethics rules as well. In the meantime, it's clear her conduct is unbecoming that of the state's highest law enforcement official. As such, she should spare taxpayers the expense of the investigation and resign."
