SCHAER: GOVERNOR HIT RIGHT PRIORITIES ON PROPERTY TAXES, SCHOOLS & HELPING CITIES

(TRENTON) - Governor Jon S. Corzine's first State of the State address to a joint session of the Legislature made a positive call for change on property taxes, education funding, and revitalizing of urban centers, Assemblyman Gary Schaer (D-Passaic) said today. Schaer issued the following statement:

"The Governor today reaffirmed his commitment to providing real, lasting, and significant property tax relief and long-term reform. It is long overdue and will benefit the common good - providing savings for 95 percent of working families.

"The Governor's commitment to basing the school aid formula on the needs of individual students, and making higher education a financial reality for more students is welcome news to the state as a whole and especially to residents of the 36th District.

"The Governor's commitment to both suburban and urban communities and his recognition that investment is critical and that all New Jerseyans deserve the opportunity to realize the American Dream is fundamental to our common vision for a better New Jersey. I look forward to working with the Governor in the coming months to help advance this agenda for change.
