(TRENTON) - Assembly Majority Leader Bonnie Watson Coleman today said the results of newly released Quinnipiac University poll shows Democrats were right on target when they enacted a sweeping plan to provide more than $2 billion in immediate property tax cuts for working families, increased state support for renters, and new guarantees of relief for senior citizens.
Watson Coleman (D-Mercer) noted that the new poll determined that the overall combination of property tax reforms and tax cuts has won the public's support by a 71 to 21 percent margin.
Meanwhile, she said 48 percent of respondents considered the 20 percent property tax cut to be the right amount of relief for working New Jerseyans and another 8 percent felt that amount was "too much."
"This poll reflects the anecdotal comments of satisfaction that legislators have been hearing from members from the public who are pleased that the state is taking a comprehensive approach to reining in rising property taxes," said Watson Coleman. "It's clear that the combination of tax cuts and structural reforms we advanced are striking a positive nerve with the public."
