The son of union organizers, State Democratic Committee Executive Director Rob Asaro-Angelo fulfilled a lifelong dream today when President Barack Obama appointed him labor secretary representative of the Northeast region.

"This is a big deal and really a dream job...especially announced right before labor day," Angelo told PolitickerNJ.com.

New Jersey Democratic State Party Chairman John Wisniewski congratulated Angelo on his new position and thanked him for his service to the party, particularly during a time of transition.

“We will miss his leadership and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors,” Wisniewski said.

A four-year veteran of the state committee, Angelo directed all committee functions, including the historic 2008 Presidential primary and general election and 2009 Governor’s race.

In new job, Angelo will serve as the Department of Labor’s representative for the Northeast region, which encompasses NJ, NY, PR, VI, CT, ME, MA, NH, RI and VT, and will be responsible for managing the department's regional activities on behalf of the secretary and coordinate federal efforts on the regional, state and local levels. He will also serve as the liaison to state and local government officials and community stakeholders.

“We also want to acknowledge the hard work of our United States Senators Frank Lautenberg and Robert Menendez, whose recommendations were key to this appointment,” Wisniewski added.

Added Lautenberg, “Rob’s experience working on labor issues and with workers in our region make him an excellent fit for this job. Having Rob in this position is a win for New Jersey.”
