DiMAIO AND DOHERTY: PUBLIC SPOKE CLEARLY WHEN IT REBUKED CORZINE'S TOLL HIKE SCHEMEGOVERNOR ADMITS HE IS STILL CONSIDERING TOLL HIKE AND BORROWING SCHEME THAT HE SEEMINGLY ABANDONED AFTER PUBLIC OPPOSITION Assemblymen John DiMaio and Michael J. Doherty said today Governor Corzine is again disregarding the people's will by reviving his scheme to raise tolls 800 percent and borrow $40 billion with false promises of reducing state debt, when residents have made it clear they will not tolerate such an increase. "New Jersey taxpayers have said over and over that they want their leaders to end the gimmicks and find ways to solve the state's financial problems by simply cutting spending without resorting to fiscal gimmicks," DiMaio, R-Hunterdon and Warren, said. "Never was this more evident than when people united in opposition of the governor's foolish plans to raise tolls 800 percent just to borrow more in the name of reducing debt - a scheme so convoluted only Wall Street wizards would love it." The governor's monetization plan has included massive toll hikes and creating tolls on highways such as I-78 and I-80. The governor is considering the plan that was supposedly abandoned despite strong opposition from the public and Republican legislators, who have proposed reducing state debt through a comprehensive plan that entails restricting government's ability to borrow what taxpayers cannot afford to repay and other responsible budgeting reforms. "Governor Corzine has once again proven incapable of understanding what people want and need in order to afford New Jersey," Doherty, R-Warren and Hunterdon, said. "Somehow, the more people say they simply want less spending, taxing and borrowing, the governor responds with complicated gimmicks that hinge on more tolls and borrowing. "The governor is blatantly disrespecting the people's will," Doherty added.####On the Net:www.NJAssemblyRepublicans.comNJ Assembly Republicans on FacebookNJ Assembly Republicans on Twitter

“She has already chosen the interests of the insurance industry over the health care needs of working people, she took millions from Wall Street as the economy went into a meltdown, and now she wants to purchase a job in Congress at a time when so many have lost their jobs because of the actions of big bankers and others." -- Monmouth County Democrats spokesman Mike Mangan, on Republican Diane Gooch, who is challenging U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone.
