DeCROCE: GOVERNOR IS STILL INTENT ON 800 PERCENT TOLL HIKE SCHEME DESPITE PUBLIC OPPOSITION

GOVERNOR CORZINE IS ONCE AGAIN CONSIDERING MASSIVE TOLL INCREASES TO FUND TOLL ROAD DEBT SCHEME

Assembly Republican Leader Alex DeCroce said today he could not believe that Governor Corzine is reconsidering his plan to raise tolls by 800 percent in a convoluted scheme that the public had refuted.

"After the public strongly opposed Governor Corzine's scheme that included massive toll increases and more borrowing, we were led to believe that he abandoned this foolish scheme. But days before the election we learn that the governor has been secretly bringing it back to life," DeCroce, R-Morris and Passaic, said. "If this plan had any merit, he would have spent all summer talking about it to foster an honest debate. But the truth is that it will only benefit his friends on Wall Street, so the governor once again kept it secret."

DeCroce said his caucus will oppose the governor's toll hike plans after Corzine told The New York Times that "This idea worked ... maybe we just need to scale it back."

"The governor has already wasted millions of dollars on private consultants to study this unpopular scheme," DeCroce said. "Residents do not want it scaled back; they want the governor to start thinking of ways to make New Jersey affordable without relying on more borrowing or tax increases.
