THOMPSON SAYS OBAMA’S TRIPS TO NEW JERSEY MUST MEAN EVERYTHING IS UNDER CONTROL
ANOTHER PRESIDENTIAL VISIT PLANNED FOR NOV. 1
Assemblyman Sam Thompson, R-Monmouth and Middlesex, said today that instead of making ongoing trips to New Jersey that are nothing but partisan politics, President Obama should focus his efforts on solving the many national and international issues impacting the United States. The president is scheduled to visit the state again on November 1, following a trip he made last week.
“With an uncertain strategy in Afghanistan, and a tense situation continuing in Iraq, the commander-in-chief should be devoting his efforts to solving the highest priorities of the American people, not spending time visiting a governor who has shown he doesn’t know how to lead,” said Thompson. “The president keeps telling us how critical it is that we address the health care crisis, but achieving a consensus on such a highly complicated and emotional issue is nowhere in sight. How does he have time to make another trip to New Jersey when soldiers are in harms’ way and people are scared about their medical benefits?”
Thompson said he believes that the president’s time could be put to better use by staying in the nation’s capital and coming up with strategies that address the country’s problems.
“Unless the president is going to deliver some advice for Governor Corzine on how to clean up the fiscal mess he created for the people and businesses in New Jersey, he would do just as well to call the governor and convey his message through that medium, and save the taxpayers a lot of money,” continued Thompson. “We already have enough waste in New Jersey. It time to change from that approach and start to save.”
