AMODEO AND POLISTINA: NEW JERSEY'S UNEMPLOYMENT REMAINS UNACCEPTABLY HIGH UNDER CORZINE

AMODEO AND POLISTINA: NEW JERSEY'S UNEMPLOYMENT REMAINS UNACCEPTABLY HIGH UNDER CORZINE

NEW JERSEY'S UNEMPLOYMENT RATE NOW UP TO 9.7 PERCENT; STATE HAS LOST 155,700 JOBS SINCE DECEMBER 2007

Assemblymen John Amodeo and Vince Polistina, both R-Atlantic, expressed dismay that unemployment continues to rise under the failed economic policies of Gov. Jon S. Corzine.

"While Governor Corzine and his friends in Washington would like us to believe the recession is over, the latest data clearly and stubbornly refutes those claims," Amodeo said. "While they deny harsh reality, an unacceptable number of New Jerseyans have no way to provide for themselves and their families because of failed economic policies that have driven employers out of New Jersey."

Data released today shows that despite adding 800 jobs in August, New Jersey's unemployment rate rose to 9.7 percent, which mirrors the national average and is the state's highest level of joblessness since April 1977.

Meanwhile, Atlantic City casinos saw double-digit decreases in revenue in each of the summer months, which is usually the industry's strongest time.

"It is clear that the governor's tact of ignoring the state's problems with a hand out to Washington is not stopping our historically high unemployment rates or doing anything about the economic problems that cripple Atlantic City," Polistina said. "We need to do more to create economic development in our region and throughout the state so we can get people back to work."
