Adler's (popular vote) loss
By Wally EdgeSenate Judiciary Committee Chairman John Adler, who is seeking to become the first Democrat to win a House seat from the third district since 1882, hasn’t lost an election in nearly eighteen years; he ran unsuccessfully for Congress against Jim Saxton in 1990, and then ousted a veteran GOP State Senator a year later. His campaign for the Saxton seat is viewed as one of the most competitive congressional races in the nation this year.
Adler took a sort-of loss this week – he ran for Delegate on Barack Obama’s ticket and came in more than 11,000 votes to Hillary Clinton delegates Virginia Betteridge, Barbara Pine and Kevin Halpern. Few pundits view Adler’s loss as harmful to his campaign for Congress – although it could hurt his chances to become U.S. Attorney in a Clinton administration if he loses to the GOP in November.
