MYERS A.W.O.L. FROM KEY BURLINGTON COUNTY MEETINGS
Medford Mayor A Chronic No-Show
Absences Shortchange Taxpayers, Show Disregard for National Security Issues
Mt. Laurel, NJ – Republican congressional candidate Chris Myers has neglected his most basic responsibilities as a public official by repeatedly failing to show up for government meetings, Democratic candidate John Adler said today. In fact, Myers has not attended a single meeting of the Burlington County Anti-terrorism Task Force since 2003 - even though he is a member of the task force and claims national-security issues to be among his top priorities.
"Chris Myers seems to think that once he's elected he can just mail it in," said Mark Warren, Adler's campaign manager. "The voters deserve more than that, but it's pretty clear that their interests are far from his top priority. Just think about it: He doesn't even show up in his own home county. And he wants to go to Congress?"
Perhaps the most glaring illustration of Myers' blatant indifference to his constituents is his complete disregard for the work of the Burlington County Anti-Terrorism Task Force. With the economy, the persistent threat of terrorism is the most critical issue facing 3rd District residents and the nation. Yet Myers, a member of the task force, is a notorious no-show. He has not attended a meeting in five years and has been absent from 25 consecutive meetings.
"And this from the man who says he wants to make national security a top priority if he's elected to Congress, " Warren said. "Not even showing up is hardly the way to demonstrate that he has the slightest interest in this most critical issue. Chris Myers talks a good game, but his actions rarely match the words. If he's constantly absent now, how can anyone believe he will show up for work in Washington?"

"With terrorism an enduring, critical threat, our nation needs leaders in Washington who are committed to doing the serious business required to protect the people, " Warren said. "We need to elect senators and congressmen who take their responsibilities on this extremely important issue seriously. If Mayor Myers' disregard for anti-terrorism issues at the local level is any indication, he is hardly the kind of serious, effective leader we need on those matters in Washington.
Besides his no-shows for the anti-terrorism meetings, Myers has failed to attend a disturbingly large number of Medford government meetings during his tenure there.
"Not only does this show he's not interested in the issues, it's a slap in the face to the taxpayers who pay his salary, " Warren said. "Mayor Myers is in office on the public dime, and he owes the public a full day's work for a day's pay. Chris Myers talks a good game, but his actions rarely match the words," Warren said.

“She has already chosen the interests of the insurance industry over the health care needs of working people, she took millions from Wall Street as the economy went into a meltdown, and now she wants to purchase a job in Congress at a time when so many have lost their jobs because of the actions of big bankers and others." -- Monmouth County Democrats spokesman Mike Mangan, on Republican Diane Gooch, who is challenging U.S. Rep.
