Adler receives Sierra Club endorsement

During a press conference this morning at the Buttonwood Park and Nature Reserve in Eastampton, state Sen. John Adler accepted the Sierra Club’s endorsement for his third district Congressional campaign.

"Not only has he been a leader and a champion of environmental causes, he also knows how to get things done,” said New Jersey Sierra Club Director Jeff Tittel in a press release. “We believe that he will be a great asset in Washington and will take his proven legislative experience and environmental leadership to the Congress of the UnitedStates."

Although the Sierra Club endorses Democrats more often than Republicans, outgoing Republican Rep. Jim Saxton had repeatedly received the group’s backing in this district that covers the entire width of the state, including a large portion of the shore. This time, the group passed over Republican Medford Mayor Chris Myers – Saxton’s heir apparent.

Adler, who sits on the Senate Environmental Committee, stressed the need to find renewable resources as alternatives to gasoline.

"We must invest in green technology to build a clean alternative energy economy that will create jobs and enable us to compete with China and India in the global economy,” he said.

Myers spokesman Jeff Sagnip, who worked for nine years as a spokesman for Saxton, said that the Sierra Club was impressed by Myers, but ultimately chose Adler because he had a legislative record in Trenton.

“It doesn’t come as a total surprise,” he said.

Sagnip added that Myers heads up Lockheed Martin’s solar energy program and has instituted environmental programs in his home town, including renewable energy incentives and setting aside about 1,500 acres of open space.

“The Sierra Club was totally impressed by Chris’s background in solar energy,” he said.

Ocean County Freeholder Jack Kelly, who’s running in a primary against Myers, could not immediately be reached for comment.

Adler vs. Andrews

Hopefully, if there is a need to replace U.S. Senate seat, John Adler would get the nod and accept it.

He would be a better candidate for NJ than Rob Andrews would be.

Adler for Senate!

Adler for Senate!

No comment Jack?

Perhaps this issue is over Jack Kelly's head since he never graduated college or maybe he can't figure out how to use his phone.  How does he expect to comprehend the legislation he would have to vote on in Washington.  Is this dunce the best Gilmore could dig up?  Just another Ocean County life-long hack.

There is one thing Jack Kelly knows and that is how to be a triple dipper and send the taxpayers the bill!

Another Huge Endorsement

Adler is raising more money than Kelly and Myers combined, and he is racking up major endorsements. Both the Recreational Fishing Alliance endorsement and The Sierra Club endorsement solidify Adler as the top choice for conservationists, environmentalists, and outdoorsman. I predicted that Adler would get every environmental endorsement, as he deserves, and this is beginning to unfold. Though I want to be cautious in my prognostications, to say that Adler's campaign is going well thus far and is exceeding expectations might be a gross understatement.

There are quite a few things

There are quite a few things that are gross.  But I won't get into them.  However, my understanding is that Sierra was very impressed with Chris's interview.  Chris has a very good record on land preservation, so there is nothing surprising here.  And he is the choice of outdoorsmen?  The NRA and Safari Club has endorsed Adler?  Give me a break.  The "Regional" Fishing Alliance endorsement may bite him in the butt.  Been hearing rumors in Ocean County about some interesting stuff about the Recreational Fishing Alliance's leadership.  Trying to get the information.  Some people here have no option but to run their mouths and it may come back to haunt them.  Lastly, the announcement that Lockheed is being looked at for a $3 billion contract with the Army is just another sign that Chris Myers and Lockheed are the engine that runs the defense industrial base in Burlington.  More jobs - thanks Chris!

Alder 2: GOP: 0

Though The Sierra Club may have been impressed with Myers, the endorsement, even before the Republican nominee has been finalized, went to Adler because of his stellar record on the environment. I have little doubt that Myers would be better than Kelly on the environment, but the fact of the matter is that endorsements and cash in this race are going to Adler in staggering numbers. And let's be honest: both Kelly and Myers are second-tier candidates who only got the nod because Allen opted out of running.

In terms of the race's positioning, Adler simply couldn't be in a better place right now. Two major endorsements, a huge fundraising advantage, and more make Adler in an enviable position to his Republican counterparts.

Second tier?

Chris Myers is far from second tier. He is the perfect person for the District. You wouldn't know because you don't live in it. And the main reason John Adler has more money is because he has been raising funds since 2003. If you gave Chris Myers a 5 year head start, I know for a fact he would have more cash on hand than Adler does currently. You'r being disingenuous to say otherwise. Nearly a third of his contributions came from his Senate account. Anyone's numbers would look good if they had two accounts to play from. And the more I dig, the more interesting facts I am finding through associates about Adler's "friends" at the "Regional" Fishing Alliance. I have a ways to go but the gfacts are leading me to realize that the endorsement may be an albatross around Alder's neck. Lastly, Barney Frank gave to Alder's campaign. Wonder if it was left over money from his boyfriend/hooker/roommate/employee's days of whoring himself out of Barney's apartment. Will go over very well in the District.

No Big Deal

Sierra Club is not going to automatically give Adler the win as Marty Mouse says. It is not even close to being as impotant as lets say Myers getting nods from Defense groups, Seniors, Vets, et al. Those are stronger key players and Adler and Marty know it.

More Cowbell Please !!

Keeping An Eye On Those Wasteful

The bumtag V2.0 site will soon be publicizing those legislators who support wasteful and counter-economic measures, including those who support the Paid Family Leave bill. Stay tuned.

With thousands of hits per week, 15 thousand printed bumper stickers and massive electronically downloaded bumper sticker images already - I think they will soon get the word.

03/01/08 10:06 pm

John - Tell Me It Isn't So?

Are you for or against this Paid Family Leave bill?

If you vote for this bill, I will fight you every inch of the way.

This will have a state-wide impact to each and every business, small business and residential employer's costs. Every single service we deal will with pass these expenses onto the NJ consumer or to their interstate customers. This is the last thing we need to do to the economy of this state - especially right now when we are on the cusp of a recession.

03/02/08 3:28 pm

True... True...

Hey, I think he is running for Congress and needs to lock down that extra union and worker support, regardless of the long-term financial impacts on all of the state's citizens - including those same constituents he seems to be pandering to?

We're all going to feel the pain of this bill in one way or another. So the little guy gets to take family leave off that they are paying into - meanwhile all costs such as food, transportation, gasoline, and pretty much everything else we buy will go up accordingly.

Wagering on Endorsements

What gave Rep. Saxton cover from his radical right views on social issues, Iraq, etc. was his pro-environmental record and his constant endorsements from environmental organizations. Now that Adler has won the endorsement of the Sierra Club before the GOP nominee has even been settled, that cover has been exposed for uber-conservatives like Kelly and Myers. I'm certain that the next major environmental endorsement will be from the New Jersey Environmental Federation; of course, Adler will deservedly get this endorsement. The question here, of course, is whether the GOP nominee will get a single endorsement, that is, besides from fringe right-wing groups like NJ Right to Life, Len Deo, and the Family Research Council.

Smoking something

You must be smoking something illegal (which I am sure your radical liberal views would support) if you think Adler will get the endorsements from the real veterans organizations, the business communities. And talk about far left, Adler has already received money from Nancy Pelosi and Barney Frank.  Is that who he aligning himself with?  That won't play int he district.  What is next?  Cindy Sheehan going to come in to do an event for him?  That would be brilliant in a military-dominate district.  But Adler is no fan of the military - I keep forgetting that.  What bill will he sponsor next?  A bill which bans the veterans from making endorsements so they can't give it to his opponent?  However, seeing as he is running for Congress, he will alter his voting record to kiss butt.  And you know nothing about Saxton.  He was a GREAT member of Congress for the people here in the 3rd District.  But I keep forgetting that Haddonfield is not in the 3rd District, so someone from there wouldn't understand that.
