Bramnick Introduces “Seinfeld” Telemarketing Bill
Assembly Republican Leader Jon Bramnick recently introduced legislation that requires telemarketers, upon request, to provide the name, address and telephone number of the person on whose behalf the call is made. Bramnick’s bill, A-3277, provides that if prosecutors can verify a complaint and trace the call back to the company, a telemarketer who refuses to give the information could be fined as much as $1,000.
“Telemarketers who make phone calls harassing consumers and will not identify themselves are not honest business people,” said Bramnick, R-Union, Morris and Somerset. “Their calls are annoying because they keep asking questions and they will not give any answers to your questions. These phone calls are just like what happened in a Seinfeld episode, except they are not funny.”
