WEST ORANGE – State Sen. Dick Codey (D-27) trashed old foe Essex County Joe DiVincenzo today as he stood at a podium beside Democratic gubernatorial candidate state Sen. Barbara Buono (D-18).

DiVincenzo welcomed Gov. Chris Christie to West Orange this morning to open a new sea lion tank, and in the lead-up the county executive told the Star-Ledger that if Buono wanted to attend the event she could purchase a ticket.

“A classless remark,” Codey said. “I think the sea lion would have shown more respect.”

Codey also objected to the adjective “powerful” as a description of the Democratic county executive with a case of Christie cuddlies.

“They lost the last two school board elections and this year they’ve given up,” said Codey, referring to DiVincenzo’s nerve center, the Newark North Ward Democratic Organization’s local political efforts.

Codey also pointed out that DiVincenzo’s 2008 lie-down on U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) in favor of challenger U.S. Rep. Rob Andrews (D-1) produced little upside for Andrews in Essex.

Quote of the Day

quote of the day

"When you're asked to cast a vote on a bill and it seems innocuous, and it's got a hidden land mine that perhaps only an expert would see, it would sort of behoove those experts to tell us in advance rather than make us look, shall we say, a little bit indecisive later on." - Assemblyman Michael Patrick Carroll (R-25).
