Two Atlantic County mayors step forward in pursuit of running on Whelan ticket

Northfield Mayor Vince Mazzeo (pictured) and Longport Mayor Nick Russo on Monday plan to formally announce their intent to seek Assembly seats in the 2nd District.

The pair are Democratic mayors of Republican towns and want to run on the ticket with incumbent state Sen. Jim Whelan (D-2).

Mazzeo and Russo plan to make their announcement in Egg Harbor Township at 5 p.m.

Earlier the same day, Atlantic County Sheriff Frank Balles intends to kick off his Republican campaign against Whelan. Balles will run with incumbent Assemblymen John Amodeo and Chris Brown.

Quote of the Day

quote of the day

“I would love to go back there and retire there and live there in an independent country that is my birth right. I worked hard in this country, I made friends, but I have been detached. I have no family in this country. It is a great draw for me to go back eventually.” - Trenton Councilwoman Marge Caldwell-Wilson, on the Sept. 18th referendum vote on Scottish independence.
