Conaway Bill to Establish "NJ Memorials to War Veterans Maintenance Fund" Advances

State Tax Return Contribution Option for Veterans of the Korean, Vietnam War, WWII

(Trenton) - Legislation Assemblyman Herb Conaway, M.D. sponsored to allow for voluntary contributions to care for New Jersey's memorials to the veterans of the Korean War, Vietnam War and World War II cleared the General Assembly on Monday.

The bill (A-2671) would establish the "NJ Memorials to War Veterans Maintenance Fund." Voluntary contributions to the fund can be made by taxpayers through a designation on the State Gross income tax return. Under the provisions, the fund would provide maintenance at the State memorials for the Vietnam War, Korean War, and World War II.

"We honor the great sacrifices our war heroes have made in many ways. Allowing residents to make independent donations to preserve the memory of our veterans through the state's war memorials is just another way to underscore the gratitude we all feel for their contributions," said Conaway (D-Burlington). "Creating a dedicated fund ensures our continued salute to the service and sacrifice of our military that fought in the Vietnam, Korean, and World War."

The measure was approved 74-0 and it now goes to the Senate for further consideration.
