Assembly Advances “New Jobs for New Jersey Act” to Boost Job Opportunities for Unemployed Residents

Burzichelli, Singleton, DeAngelo, Benson & Coutinho Legislation Would Provide Tax Credits to Small Businesses

(TRENTON) - An Assembly panel on Tuesday approved legislation sponsored by Assemblymen John Burzichelli, Troy Singleton, Wayne DeAngelo, Daniel Benson and Albert Coutinho to provide incentives for small businesses to hire unemployed residents. The bill is part of a comprehensive job creation effort laid out by Assembly Democrats last week.

"This is a two-fold approach to help jumpstart our economy," said Burzichelli (D-Cumberland/Gloucester/Salem). "It will boost opportunities for those desperately in need of a job while also helping small businesses hire much-needed employees."

The "New Jobs for New Jersey Act" (A-3312) establishes a New Jobs for New Jersey tax credit program to provide incentives to small private sector employers who increase their workforce by hiring unemployed workers.

"What was amusing is that once Stack did it, Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo, also a Democrat, endorsed Christie the next day. It's almost like the two Democrats held hands and jumped into the deep end of the pool." - columnist Agustin Torres.
