The result at this afternoon's Newark City Council meeting was the same as it was last week, as Mayor Cory Booker broke a deadlocked council and affirmed Shanique Davis Speight as a replacement for U.S. Rep. Donald Payne (D-10).
Council people Anibal Ramos, Luis Quintana, Carlos Gonzalez and Augusto Amador all voted for Speight, and the mayor propelled her over the objection of Council people Ronald C. RIce, Mildred Crump, Darrin Sharif, and Ras Baraka.
President Barack Obama will return to New Jersey next week to tour the Jersey Shore with Gov. Chris Christie.
