A former attorney for Bergen County Democrats is scheduled to be sentenced today before a federal judge for his role in a mail fraud scheme and failure to file federal income tax returns.
Dennis Oury, the former borough attorney for Bergenfield, is scheduled to be sentenced in Newark, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
He was indicted in 2008 alongside his business partner and the former Bergen County Democratic chairman, Joseph Ferriero, on several counts of conspiracy and mail fraud charges.
Oury later pleaded guilty to charges just days before the two men were prepared to stand trial.
He is reportedly expected to ask U.S. District Judge Stanley Chesler to spare him time behind bars.
The rift between Steve Lonegan and Murray Sabrin goes back to 2008.
