TRENTON - Many of them blockaded under provisional ballots since Election Day, county clerks want a certification extension until Nov. 27th.

“Buried,” was the way Morris County GOP Committeeman John Sette described the scene today at the Morris County Clerk’s Office.

“They’ve been working weekends in there since Election Day trying to process ballots,” he added.

The state deadline for certification is this Wednesday.

The clerks wrote a letter to the LG’s Office requesting the extension to do the onerous work created by Hurricane Sandy.

“We’re still processing ballots of Essex County residents displaced to other counties by the storm,” confirmed Essex County Clerk Chris Durkin.

Hunterdon County Clerk Mary Melfi told PolitickerNJ.com that Hunterdon – rocked less than Monmouth and Ocean - presents fewer challenges. Her provisionals are done, in fact.

But she supports the deadline extension.

“Anything to help my colleagues,” Melfi said.
