The Associated Press is projecting Albio Sires to retain his 8th District congressional seat.

Sires defeated former Bayonne Councilwoman Maria Karczewski.

Sires has served in the House since 2006 when he took over the seat vacated by U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez. Menendez won his bid for re-election to the U.S. Senate.
