Hurricane Sandy ripped the Seaside Heights roller coaster off the boardwalk, but Ocean County GOP Chairman George Gilmore knows what it feels like to be on one right now.
His county was wrecked by the storm earlier this week, and now the chairman of this Republican Party voter stronghold is trying to make sure everyone who can vote gets the opportunity on Tuesday.
In 33 towns, 107 polling places are fully functioning.
An additional fifty-one are unresponsive and may be damaged on Election Day.
To handle the crisis, Gilmore rented a bus, which will arrive in Ocean this afternoon. The bus will shuttle among all the shelters where Ocean County residents are housed. There are several in Ocean and others in Monmouth and Burlington counties.
“The bus will hit every shelter and deliver vote from home ballots,” Gilmore told PolitickerNJ.com.
The chairman said the county is also in the process of printing 50,000 provisional ballots, which will be available to displaced voters at any polling place.
“We are moving full speed ahead,” Gilmore said.
President Barack Obama will return to New Jersey next week to tour the Jersey Shore with Gov. Chris Christie.

"That's state money and the speaker has never raised an objection to that, and now all of a sudden she objects to her own bill. She's objecting on a basis she hasn't objected before on the TAG Grant program. Let's face it everybody, this is just politics. It's election year and it's politics." - Gov. Chris Christie, on Speaker Sheila Oliver (D-34).
