Press Release
NEWARK – U.S. Senators Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ) and Robert Menendez (D-NJ) today announced two New Jersey fire departments have received more than $270,000 in federal funding through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program. Eligible uses of this grant funding include investments in training, equipment, and health programs.
“When the alarm sounds, firefighters must be ready to roll. These federal resources will help ensure New Jersey firefighters are sufficiently trained and equipped to handle emergencies safely and effectively,” said Senator Lautenberg, Vice Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security, which funds the AFG program. “With municipalities across our state making tough budget decisions, this direct federal investment in local firefighters is especially important. We will continue working to make sure our first responders are well prepared to keep families in New Jersey and across the country safe.”
“Tough budget times call for tough cuts and tough decisions, but one thing we must continue to fund without question are investments in training, equipment and heath programs for our first responders,” said Senator Menendez. “New Jersey firefighters put their lives on the line every time they answer a call to protect our families and our communities. It’s our responsibility to make sure they have all the resources they need to carry out their job safely.”
The following federal grants have been awarded:
Elizabeth Fire Department – $64,000 for operations and safety.
Cinnaminson Fire Department – $206,340 for operations and safety.
