The Bergen Republican County Organization's midnight deadline last night for candidates' submissions sparked a much anticipated intra-party battle among GOP candidates eyeing two freeholder seats.
Incumbent Republican Freeholder Rob Hermansen (pictured) wants another shot.
But his anti-establishment brand means he will have to fight for it at a party convention next month, say sources.
Ridgewood attorney John Ginty, former Rivers Edge Mayor Margaret "Peg" Watkins, and Washington Township Councilman Frederick C. Goetz all want the organization's nod.
The convention is scheduled for March 14.
Hoping to secure his seat to run with the backing of the BCRO, Hermansen is seeking re-election this year without his 2009 running mate, Freeholder John Driscoll, who elected not to run for re-election.
