The Monmouth County Republican Committee on Saturday is scheduled to choose a successor to Freeholder Rob Clifton.
Clifton yesterday assumed the oath of office as the new 12th District Assemblyman.
The field of contenders for Clifton’s vacated freeholder seat includes Mayor Bob Walsh of Howell, Atlantic Highlands Coincilman Peter Doyle and Manalapan Committeeman Ryan Green.
But Deputy Mayor Serena DiMaso of Holmdel (pictured) remains the favorite to emerge from Saturday’s convention at Colts Neck High School.
Sources in Monmouth County say DiMaso has the required establishment support to win the seat, but acknowledge the potential for a second ballot and possible alliance between Walsh and Green.
DiMaso lost to John Curley in a 2008 convention bid for freeholder.

"Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto, a Hudson County Democrat, is balking. And with the growing belief that Christie could skip town to run for president, some Democrats are not eager to give him another talking point for his résumé. Christie’s plans to stump for Republican candidates in New Hampshire later Thursday only fuel that suspicion." - columnist Charles Stile- The Bergen Record
