Gov. Chris Christie - himself a former GOP flavor-o-the-week - today dismissed former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, the Republican presidential candidate leading the polls in Florida, as the "newest flavor of the two weeks."
Christie was on the trail stumping for former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who the New Jersey governor endorsed after putting an end to his own presidential dalliance.
According to FLDemocracy2012.com, Christie attacked Gingrich's experience or lack thereof and did his best to tie the Republican candidate to President Obama.
"Speaker Gingrich has never run anything. And he’s been a legislator. I have to tell you – I don’t think being a legislator is the best calling card. Look at the guy we have in the White House now: he never ran anything and was a legislator.”
Polling shows Gingrich with a considerable lead in Florida, which will hold its primary Jan. 31.
Christie swatted down questions about the polling, claiming they are no different than earlier polls elsewhere that showed the latest GOP front-runner with sizable leads.
“These Gingrich poll numbers are as solid as the Cain numbers were, as solid as the Perry numbers were, as solid as the Bachmann numbers were,” he told FLDemocracy.com.
Florida holds 29 electoral votes and will be the 4th primary contest to be held, falling after the Iowa caucuses, the New Hampshire primary and the South Carolina primary.
