Simmering in the background for much of this morning's debate as state Sen. Nick Scutari (D-22) slapped around the charge of a bossed GOP, state Sen. Kevin O'Toole (R-40) finally unloaded on state Sen. Ronald L. Rice (D-28).
"You don't know me," attorney O'Toole raged. "I don't know you. How dare you tell me how to vote. How dare you tell me to do what I should do and should not do. It is pompous. Don't you dare tell me what to do in my district."
The ultimately failed resolution was a Democrat attempt to restore a $10 million appropriation for Legal Services of New Jersey.
Christie had recommended a $19.9 million appropriation to Legal Services in the Governor’s budget recommendations of February 22, 2011, which the legislature increased to $24.9 million in the FY 2012 appropriation act.
Then the governor chopped the appropriation to $14.9 million, or $5.0 million less than the Governor’s original recommendation and the organization’s $19.9 million FY 2011 appropriation.
